RBS has a unique history in pretzels and pretzel-making equipment. In 1947, the company was founded as Reading Pretzel Machinery Company to manufacture pretzel-processing equipment, such as the first commercially-successful automatic pretzel twisting machine. 

The company quickly became the world leader in high-speed, automatic pretzel equipment, and, by 1997, over 80% of pretzels made in the U.S. were made on Reading equipment.

Decades of innovation have led RBS to introduce other pretzel-making equipment, including low pressure extruders, ultrasonic cutters, hot cookers, 2-pass baking systems, variable heat-flux ovens, and multi-pass dryers.

Today, our standard, high volume production lines produce from 400-1000 kg/hr and can be installed as automatic or manually operated systems. We also offer the Vector Pretzel Pine for customers interested in lower production volumes.

Turnkey Production System

Our Pretzel & Snack System enables you to create a variety of pretzel shapes, sticks, braids, filled sticks, and bread snacks on one production line.  Available equipment for the system includes:

MX Continuous Mixer: The Exact Mixing MX Continuous Mixer is our most versatile mixer and is well suited for a wide range of products including pretzels, cookies, snacks, batters, icings, and pastes.

DoughBot:  The Reading Pretzel DoughBot is a completely automated dough handling system that precisely portions, conditions, and transports dough to downstream forming equipment.

Extruder: The flexible Reading Pretzel Low Pressure (LP) Extruder is an excellent alternative to conventional dough forming and sheeting systems. Produce hard pretzel shapes, sticks, braids and other shapes, by easily exchanging compression heads and dies. for enhanced product variation.

Cutter: The single-blade Reading Pretzel Guillotine Cutter cuts products before or after baking, and can create a pretzel as short as one inch (25 mm) at the press of a button. It can be operated continuously at up to 175 cuts per minute or on a cycle mode at speeds up to 50 cuts per minute.

Hot Cooker: The Reading Pretzel Cooker evenly cooks or steams pretzels and pretzel-type products. It utilizes a bath or waterfall system to apply caustic solution, providing greater control over product texture and color before baking.

Topping Dispensers: Omega Dispensers apply topping materials with uniformity by means of rotating rolls for application of pretzel salt, poppy seeds and sesame seeds, dispensing screens for delivering fine-grain spices and cinnamon, and vibrating trays that dispense toppings such as caraway seeds, nut pieces and seed/spice mixes.

Pretzel Oven: The SPECTRUM OVEN® is available in a number of configurations with different heat transfer modules that allow for greater product variation with a simple profile adjustment. Radiation, convection heating and conduction zones give you repeatable control of time, temperature, humidity and the type of heat transfer.

Multi-Pass Dryer: The Reading Pretzel Multi-Pass Dryer efficiently reduces product core moisture improving overall quality and storage characteristics.
